Kohima in India Hosts Thrilling Master Pickleball Championship

Pickleball took centre stage in Nagaland, India last weekend as the two‑day Kohima Master Pickleball Championship, organised by the Paddle Collective Kohima, wrapped up at The Heritage Pickleball Arena.

With 60 players from Kohima and Dimapur competing across categories, the event showcased both seasoned talents and emerging names. Kohima Municipal Council chairperson Neibodzelie Solo was on hand to present the prizes, adding a touch of civic pride to the sporting occasion.

Action Delivers

In the beginners’ mixed doubles, James Liezietsu and Dr. Mengu Rio claimed the crown, edging out Imtisen Kikon and Amung Konyak. The open mixed doubles saw Viketho Kechü and Imtisen Kikon combine for victory, defeating Kenei Miachieo and Lentina Longkumer.

Men’s doubles produced equally compelling battles. Liezietsu teamed up with Kechü to secure the open title, overcoming Lhouvi Punyü and Vikho Khate. In the beginners’ division, Yudang Ao and Moa Pongen emerged champions, with Mengu Sakhrie and Talisunep settling for runner‑up honours.

The championship also recognised standout performers. Viketho Kechü was named Best Player of the tournament, while Talisunep earned Best Beginner Player (Men). Imtisen Kikon, who impressed across categories, took home Best Beginner Player (Women).

The Kohima Master Pickleball Championship not only celebrated winners but also highlighted the sport’s growing presence in Nagaland. With strong participation and spirited competition, pickleball continues to carve out its place in the region’s sporting calendar—bringing together communities, fostering camaraderie, and showcasing talent across generations.
