Global Pickleball Summit 2026 Brings Curtains Down, Puts Hong Kong at Centre of Growing Sport

Pickleball has spent the past few years answering the question, “How big can it get?” The Global Pickleball Summit 2026 asked a tougher one: What happens next?

The three-day programme organised by RacketPro ran from Sunday, 18 October, to Tuesday, 20 October, in Hong Kong, with JOOLA, DUPR, Heleus Holdings, and Sino Group as major sponsors. It was built around three themes: Connecting Through the Game, Shaping the Pickleball Ecosystem, and Turning Opportunity Into Action.

The timing of the Global Pickleball Summit 2026 was no accident, either. It came just ahead of the ongoing Hang Seng Bank Hong Kong Slam, which runs from 19 to 25 October at Kai Tak Arena and is billed as the highest-level professional pickleball tournament in the region.

With the sport’s biggest names in town, Hong Kong had a rare chance to talk about the game’s future, as well as its present.

Connecting Through the Game, Shaping the Sport

Day 1

The Global Pickleball Summit 2026 opened on court, not in a conference room. The Pickle House in Wong Chuk Hang hosted a social play session with DUPR ratings for participants from 1:00 p.m. to 4:20 p.m., a neat way to get delegates from different countries hitting together before the serious talking started.

Then came the headline draw: open play with pros from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., open only to confirmed participants. The line-up featured Ben Johns, Anna Bright, Len Yang, Rex Thais, and Aline Morales.

Day 2

Monday moved to The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel for the heart of the programme. The morning opened with an address titled “Elevating Pickleball Together”, followed by panels on global growth (“What the Data Is Telling Us”) and a regional view (“Beyond the Numbers”). The remaining morning sessions tackled “Education as the Foundation of Sustainable Growth” and “Building Sustainable Pickleball Facilities”.

The afternoon turned to governance and the sport’s identity. “Growing Pains” looked at how a game becomes a sport, and another panel covered best practices, priorities, and challenges at different stages of national federation development.

But the most pointed session of the day may have been “The Olympics Pathway and Current Status: Is It Really the Goal?” The day ended with a federation-members-only, invitation-only “Regional Growth and Collaboration Lab”, and an optional cocktail reception.

Day 3

Tuesday’s agenda was shorter but forward-looking. Two featured conversations, “Beyond the Lesson” and “Life Beyond the Podium”, opened the day, followed by panels on a youth development pathway and curriculum, how technology changes pickleball, and the role of professional pickleball in the wider ecosystem. Closing remarks wrapped things up at 12:30 p.m.

Why Global Pickleball Summit 2026 Matters

The agenda tells its own story. A few years ago, a pickleball conference would have focused on courts and equipment. This one put federations, education, youth pathways, sustainability, technology, and the Olympics on the table, which is a sign of a sport that’s moving from boom to structure.

It also fits a regional pattern. Asia now has a full professional calendar, and the PPA Tour Asia says its 2026 season spans ten stops across seven markets. As the game grows, the questions get harder: who governs it, who trains the next generation, and who pays for the courts?

To this end, Global Pickleball Federation President Erika Von Heiland Strader may have provided a worthy talking point and critical reminder to pickleball’s stakeholders, wherever they are in the world: “Recreational pickleball fuels participation. Sport governance of pickleball fuels legitimacy.”

Indeed, the fact that those questions were on the agenda at all says a lot. Pickleball is no longer just asking to be taken seriously. It’s starting to plan like a sport that expects to be.
