Hong Kong Open 2025: PPA Tour Asia’s Next Stop Must Build on Lessons from Malaysia

After the mixed bag that was the Panas Malaysia Open 2025, PPA Tour Asia will next head to Hong Kong for its second stop—the Hong Kong Open 2025.
The Hong Kong Open 2025 will be held on 21–24 August 2025 at Kai Tak Arena in Hong Kong and will again feature both Pro event and other age and rating categories for amateurs looking for some stiff, exciting competition.
Soon, Kai Tak Arena—Hong Kong’s state-of-the-art sporting cathedral—will become the stage where Asia’s finest athletes battle for glory. Cutting-edge facilities, world-class infrastructure, and the intensity of professional pickleball will unite in this architectural masterpiece, which will stand as mute witness to the continuing growth of pickleball in the world’s largest continent. Its exact location is 38 Shing Kai Rd, Kai Tak, Kowloon in Hong Kong.
As with the first stop, players in the Hong Kong Open 2025 will be competing for pride, honour, points, and cash prizes.

Learning from the Panas Malaysia Open 2025
While PPA Tour Asia touts the Hong Kong Open 2025 as “where the pros play,” it will have to make sure it doesn’t commit the same mistakes it did in Malaysia, where many locals came away displeased with the way the Panas Malaysia Open 2025 was organised. Two things, in particular, the organisers would need to improve on are ensuring better, more seamless communication and making sure the players’ safety are considered all throughout.
PPA Tour Asia will also need to do a better job that these tournaments they are holding are truly about growing the sport of pickleball and providing Asia’s picklers a topnotch avenue to showcase their talent and not just some hastily organised tour meant to line the pockets of the PPA. That appeared to be the case at the Panas Malaysia Open 2025, which felt more like a second-rate event than a world-class competition.
