The Asia Open Pickleball Championship 2025 in Hyderabad isn’t the only high-profile tournament on tap to start the year. There’s also the IPA 4th Nationals PWR 700 scheduled from the 23rd to the 26th of January at Bennett University, also in India.
The PWR 700 is to date the largest and most prestigious pickleball event to be held in India and will see some of the country’s finest picklers competing for medals, prizes, and ranking points. In total, over 700 players from 25 states in India are set to participate in the PWR 700—a clear indication of the exponential growth of pickleball in the Indian subcontinent.
A total of 20 world-class courts—including 10 dedicated pickleball courts—await the competitors, who will include the best of the best in Armaan Bhatia, Aditya Ruhela, Harsh Mehta, and Dhiren Patel, among others.
The PWR 700: What It Is and Why It Matters
The PWR 700 is a prestigious pickleball event that will allow players to increase their ranking on the PWR DUPR system as ranking points—along with medals, prizes, and bragging rights—are up for grabs. The DUPR system a global ranking system for pickleball players worldwide and is considered one of the standards. The “700” in PWR 700 indicates that up to 700 ranking points are going to be earned at the conclusion of the tournament.
Last year, the RK Khanna Tennis Complex in New Delhi hosted the PWR DUPR India Masters. Like the upcoming tournament in Bennett University, the India Masters was also a PWR DUPR 700 event. That tournament featured 750 players from all over the world who competed in five different categories—men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles). Competitions for 35+, Junior, 50+, and 60+ were also held.
Last year’s PWR DUPR India Masters also saw Bennett University host exhibition game between men’s singles finalists Armaan Bhatia of India and Dustin Boyer of the United States. A year later, the university is hosting its own prestigious pickleball tournament.
