Malaysia’s ReSkills EdTech Aims to Push ‘Fun’ Pickleball into Grassroots Level

ReSkills EdTech, Malaysia’s education specialist, wants to push pickleball into the grassroots level as it continues to grow in the country. This growth, of course, is an offshoot of the sport being fun to play, easy to learn, and accessible to all.

“This is an amazing way to be healthy, fit, and have fun at the same time,” ReSkills CEO Jin Tan told Malaysia’s The Star. “This is the way forward for our community of Malaysia to be vibrant in their life. Pickleball is the way forward—it is fun, fun, and more fun. And while doing that, you are also staying fit and healthy. It is the perfect combination.”

ReSkills Gets Major Boost from Malaysia’s Pickleball Bodies

But in order to push pickleball into the grassroots level, Jin knows ReSkills will need all the help they can get. That’s why the group is working hand-in-hand with the Malaysian Pickleball Association to realise this lofty goal of grassroots-based development. ReSkills, according to Jin, is also banking on the support of Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Ministry.

“We are working closely with the association and we have big plans for the game,” said Jin, who also serves as the president of the Reskill Pickleball Club. “It is also great news for us that the Youth and Sports Ministry is fully supporting our initiatives. One way of pushing the sports to the next level is also by having our own club, and we are emphasising a lot in introducing the game to the young ones.”

Indeed, those plans are already being put in motion. In fact, according to ReSkills Chief Business Officer Ken Lim, plans are already being made to include pickleball in Malaysian schools.

“The thing is, this game has associations in all the states. That helps us even more. And pickleball is also not an expensive recreational sport, unlike other games,” he told The Star. “It is very affordable for all and we aim to take advantage of it by introducing the game to all. What is important is that we have a big pool of players and then we look at the future and have more participation in the international arena.”

Sports Is Education in Motion: ReSkills Hosts Asia Pickleball Summit

ReSkills, incidentally, was the head organiser of the first-ever Asia Pickleball Summit (APS), which was held at One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. The event, attended by pickleball stakeholders all across Asia, highlighted Malaysia’s pioneering role in the world’s fastest-growing sport and underscored ReSkills’ capability to promote pickleball on a grander, bigger scale.

That nationwide promotion, according to Lim, will hinge a lot on education, which he equates with sports.

“Sports is education in motion. APS is where thought meets action, and Malaysia proudly stands at its epicentre,” he said. “Through ReSkills, pickleball becomes more than a match; it becomes a classroom. More than a game, it becomes empowerment.”

Now, looking ahead, ReSkills is hoping to empower Malaysia’s young generation through pickleball.
