Phuc Huynh Strikes Gold at Home, Yufei Long Makes It Three PPA Tour Asia Titles

The ascension of Vietnam’s Phuc Huynh is complete—though it had to come at the expense of countryman Hoang Nam Ly.
Huynh and Ly treated the hometown crowd to an all-Vietnam Final in the Men’s Singles at the recently concluded MB Vietnam Open 2025, and it was Huynh who ultimately came out on top, 2-0 (11-5, 11-1), to deliver Ho Chi Minh City’s golden moment.
A silver medallist in Fukuoka last week, Phuc Huynh again marched on to the Men’s Singles Final, where his compatriot stood as the remaining hindrance to a gold. Huynh made sure no one was stopping him this time.
Phuc Huynh brought the pressure and never let up from the first serve. After securing match point, he turned to the packed stands with arms raised, reminding everyone that this was Vietnam’s court—and Vietnam’s moment.
Over at the distaff side, China’s Yufei Long claimed her third PPA Tour Asia gold in a dramatic Women’s Singles Final that had fans on their feet. Dominant in two previous Finals in Malaysia and Fukuoka, Long this time had to dig deep in a finale that required every ounce of fight from the now three-time champ. And she did it in style, coming back from a game down to outlast Sahra Dennehy, 2-1 (10-12, 11-6, 11-9), in an absolute thriller.
The Men’s and Women’s Doubles Finals delivered contrasting storylines, with the top seeds flexing their might as Alix Truong and Meghan Dizon cruised to Women’s Doubles gold, 2-0 (11-3, 11-0), in a dominant display of talent and championship poise. The Men’s Doubles, on the other hand, was much more competitive, with Americans AJ Koller and Jonathan Truong handling Australians George Wall and Joseph Wild, 2-0 (11-6, 11-7).
The Mixed Doubles Final pitted two giant-killing teams against each other. Qualifiers Harsh Mehta and Jamie Haas—who shocked top seeds Koller/Dizon earlier—faced Danni-Elle Townsend and Joseph Wild, fresh from their upset of the Truong siblings. The Cinderella story ended just short of midnight as the Aussies prevailed, 2-0 (11-4, 11-9), despite a late surge from the qualifier heroes.
With Vietnam celebrating its golden boy, and Long cementing her dominance, the MB Vietnam Open surely delivered everything the home crowd wanted, and more.
