Tyson McGuffin, Kaitlyn Christian Among Winners as Proton Australia Pickleball Open Concludes

The Proton Australia Pickleball Open concluded with a bang over the weekend, and after a week of intense, thrilling action, the winners’ circle in each category were filled by the best of the best. Here is a final recap of the winners:
Mixed Doubles Final: (2) Lacy Schneemann and Tyson McGuffin Def. (1) Jessie Irvine and Gabe Tardio, 8-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8.
- Schneemann’s first PPA title of any type.
- McGuffin’s first title since his Triple Crown effort at the T-O-C in August 2023.
- Irvine and Tardio led 9-6-1 in Game Three, two points short of winning the match.
- All four players had at least 10 “Clean Winners.” It is the first time that has happened in a Mixed Doubles final since the start of the 2022 season.
- Longest rally: 38 shots.
Men’s Doubles Final: (1) Tyson Mcguffin and Gabe Tardio Def. (3) Quang Duong and C.J. Klinger, 4-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-8, 11-9.
- Tardio’s fifth Men’s Doubles title, all since last August.
- McGuffin’s first title since his Triple Crown effort at the T-O-C in August 2023.
- All four players had at least 10 “Clean Winners.” It is the first time that has happened in a Men’s Doubles final since August of 2023.
- Klinger had a match-high 18 Clean Winners.
- McGuffin and Tardio were better at winning rally-ending speed-up hands battles they initiated, 54% to 47%.
- Longest rally: 39 shots.
Women’s Doubles Final: (2) Vivian Glozman and Lacy Schneemann Def. (1) Tyra Black and Allyce Jones, 11-7, 11-3, 7-11, 11-9.
- First career titles of any type for both Glozman and Schneemann.
- Black and Jones were both trying to win their first career Doubles titles.
- Schneemann had a match-high 17 clean winners.
- Golzman and Schneemann had more clean winners (22-14).
- Longest rally: 60 shots.
Men’s Singles Final: (3) Gabe Tardio Def. (1) Tyson McGuffin, 11-9, 11-4.
- Tardio’s first career Singles medal, and title.
- Tardio had more clean winners, 20-7.
- Tardio finished the match with three straight third-shot winners.
- McGuffin’s last Singles title was in August 2023.
- McGuffin now 6-20 in finals. (1-13 vs Johns, 5-7 vs everyone else)
- Longest rally: 12 shots.
Women’s Singles Final: (1) Kaitlyn Christian Def. (12) Somer Dalla-Bona, 12-10, 11-8.
- Christian’s third straight final (gold in Daytona Beach, silver at the Masters)
- Christian has more clean winners, 20-15.
- Christian called four time outs, and won all four of the subsequent rallies.
- Longest rally: 14 shots.
