Komodo Pickleball Introduces Industry-First Biodegradable BioBall™

Komodo Pickleball, a leading innovator in high performance sports equipment, has just announced BioBall™, the sport’s first biodegradable pickleball. BioBall, the first biodegradable hardcourt ball to be USAPA-certified for tournament play, boasts a durable construction that lasts five times longer than standard pickleballs.
The introduction of BioBall comes at an opportune as the world grapples with a growing plastic waste problem. According to industry estimates, 500 million pickleballs are produced every year, and that number continues to rapidly grow as the sport expands on a global basis. When not disposed of properly, these plastic balls will only exacerbate the world’s plastic waste problem.

The Komodo BioBall is made with a proprietary bio-based additive that extends the performance lifespan of a standard pickleball and accelerates decomposition when introduced to a landfill. The BioBall completely degrades (no microplastics) within three to five years in a landfill compared to hundreds of years for traditional plastics.
“Pickleball is growing at a dizzying rate due to its low-cost, ease of entry, fast learning curve and competitive enjoyment for all ability levels,” said Dave Milo, Founder of Komodo. “It’s critical that the industry tackle environmental sustainability now so we can manage growth in a responsible manner. The BioBall is the first step in our commitment to durability and sustainable construction through all our future product lines.”
The BioBall was extensively tested by Komodo’s pro athletes. On testing, they discovered the balls regularly last up to 70 games, far surpassing the 14 games managed by standard balls. The expanded lifespan offers further environmental benefit by reducing the total number of balls being disposed in each period of use. The USPA-certified, tournament-approved ball qualifies for globally accepted ASTM D5511 testing and certification standards.

The Komodo BioBall, available for pre-sale through Komodo dealers and Komodo Pickleball’s online store, beginning on 15th October 2025, are sold in four packs for $14.97.
