MATTA Announces Malaysia Pickleball Grandslam 2025 (MPG2025) Set for October

The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) has announced the first-ever Malaysia Pickleball Grand Slam 2025 (MPG2025) set to take place from 7 to 20 October 2025 at PIKABOL in Kuching, Sarawak. MPG2025 aims to promote Malaysia as a premier sports tourism destination by attracting top international players.

The Malaysia Pickleball Association, Sarawak Pickleball Association, and Kuching Pickleball Association are strongly endorsing MPG2025 and has the full support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Entrepreneur Development Sarawak, and Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak.

MPG2025 boasts a total prize pool of RM100,000 (USD $22,600) and is the largest in the region so far. This is why MATTA anticipates the tournament to draw elite international players and showcase Malaysia’s diverse tourism attractions in the process. The tournament will include several categories, including team events men’s and women’s singles, and mixed doubles. MPG2025 will also cater to different skill levels and age groups.

“As part of our commitment to promoting sports tourism, MATTA is taking the lead in establishing the Malaysia Pickleball Grand Slam as an annual event,” said Nigel Wong, President at MATTA. “This tournament not only elevates Malaysia’s standing in the international sports scene but also encourages inbound and domestic tourism, giving international players and visitors a good opportunity to experience our country’s rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality. By integrating sports and tourism, we want to create a lasting impact on the economy and position Malaysia as a must-visit sports tourism hub.”

MPG2025 also hopes to strengthen Malaysia’s appeal as a sports hub to help its sports-driven tourism aspirations. It aims to accomplish this by capitalising on the meteoric rise of pickleball in Malaysia and in the world.

To further strengthen its commitment to pickleball, MATTA has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysia Pickleball Association to formalise the beginning of a long-term collaboration that will seek to grow pickleball nationwide and elevate Malaysia’s reputation as a sporting centre in the region.

MPG2025 is estimated to attract more than 1,000 participants and over 2,500 visitors. This is expected to contribute an estimated RM31.6 million in tourism spending in Malaysia.
