No Fluke: Phuc Huynh Bags BIDV Cup 2026 Gold With Another Masterful Win Over Quang Duong
For the longest time, Quang Duong has been considered Vietnam’s top male pickleball player. In a span of three weeks, Phuc Huynh might force pundits to reconsider the pickleball totem pole.
On Sunday, Huynh beat Duong, 11-7, 11-2, in the Men’s Singles Final of the BIDV Cup 2026, the second leg of Vietnam’s hugely successful D-JOY Pickleball Tour. Duong, the one-time PPA Tour standout, actually started strong, racing out to a 7-1 advantage in the opening game before Huynh launched a sterling comeback. A successful VAR check and two call-outs later completed Huynh’s massive rally.
Game 2 belonged to Phuc Huynh from start to finish. He started out with six unanswered points that prompted QD to ask for a ceasefire. Duong managed to get two points back, but he couldn’t stop his Vietnamese rival from taking the game and the match—and the championship, of course.
With the win, Phuc Huynh not only won another gold medal, he also proved beyond any doubt that his sweep of Quang Duong in the semifinals of the 2026 Michelob Ultra Asia Pickleball Tournament was no fluke. Huynh’s dominance of QD has been noteworthy, as the Golden Boy of Vietnamese pickleball couldn’t even win a game.
Interestingly, Huynh’s latest golden conquest is his second in three weeks as well, as he previously beat Hoang Nam Ly in the gold medal match of the 2026 Michelob Ultra Asia Pickleball Tournament. That means his last three wins have come against two players generally regarded as among Vietnam’s very best.
Huynh, of course, is no slouch. Based on DUPR ratings, he is No. 2 in Men’s Singles here in Asia, trailing Ly by the slimmest of margins, 6.267 to 6.234. And the way he has been playing, Phuc Huynh might have proven that he is, at least for now, Vietnam’s top player.
