Pickleball Brings Families Together at Mother’s Day Mixer in Kuala Lumpur

This year’s Mother’s Day took on a uniquely energetic and memorable twist as mothers, daughters, sons, and supporting family members gathered at Pickle Jam Courts in Kepong for the Mother’s Day Mixer Pickleball Tournament organised by LinkedUp Asia.

The whole aim behind the event was to celebrate family bonds through sports, and the event brought together mothers and their children in an evening filled with competition, laughter, and meaningful moments—reinforcing once again how pickleball has become one of the most inclusive and family-friendly sports in Asia.

A Celebration of Mothers Through Sport

Held on Mother’s Day itself, the tournament featured two categories:

  • Mothers & Daughters (All Ages)
  • Mothers & Sons (All Ages)

What made the event particularly special was the diversity of participants. The “kids” ranged in age from just 7 years old to 27, highlighting the sport’s accessibility across generations.

More than just a competition, the event was built around a simple but powerful aspiration:

Creating lasting happy memories through pickleball

Spending Mother’s Day on court—competing, laughing, and playing—offered players a unique way to bring their Mother’s Day celebrations to a conclusion. It is one that the organisers hope participants will remember long after the games have been played and the medals have been awarded.

Competitive Spirit Meets a Fun, Inclusive Atmosphere

While the matches were often fiercely contested, the atmosphere remained light-hearted and inclusive throughout the event.

Teams embraced the spirit of the occasion not just through their play, but through their creativity—with standout team names such as:

  • Potato Fries
  • Chitty Chitty Hwang Hwang
  • Tiger Mum and Son

These touches reflected the event’s true character: competitive, but always centred on fun, connection, and shared enjoyment.

Champions Crowned

At the conclusion of an exciting day of matches, the winning teams were:

Mothers & Sons

RiFattRita Thing and her son Ah Fatt

Mothers & Daughters

Sugar and SpinToh Ser Ing and her daughter Kimberly

Commercial Support Behind the Event

The success of the tournament was made possible through strong community and sponsor support.

Participants were treated to:

  • A chicken rice dinner courtesy of Canton Boy
  • Premium skincare and beauty products provided by Beaubelle, including door gifts for all players and exclusive goodie boxes for the podium winners
  • High-quality paddles and accessories from MyPickleball, awarded to top finishers

In all cases, these contributions were provided because those companies wanted to support the event aims far more than any benefit they received as sponsors. Their generosity and support helped elevate the experience, ensuring that every participant—regardless of result—walked away feeling valued.

More Than a Tournament

Events like the Mother’s Day Mixer highlight what makes pickleball such a powerful and fast-growing sport in the region.

Beyond competition, pickleball offers:

  • A platform for family connection
  • A space for shared experiences across generations
  • An opportunity to create lasting memories

In an age where time together is often limited, initiatives like this show how sport can bring people closer in meaningful ways.
