Squad Headlined by Quang Duong, Jimmy Liong Wins Team Event in Cakenis Cup Pickleball Malaysia 2025
The Cakenis Cup Pickleball Malaysia 2025 became the epicentre of pickleball excellence over the weekend as some of the region’s best players engaged in electrifying rallies and exhilarating matches in front of roaring crowds.
In the end, the highly touted Team Cakenis ruled the Team Event, going unbeaten in the group stage before fending off Bintang Pro Picklers in the semifinals, and outlasting 002 in the finals.
Asia’s top player, Quang Duong, headlined Team Cakenis, which also featured Malaysia’s no. 1 pickleball player in the men’s side, Jimmy Liong, and Vietnam’s Ken Tam. Liong and Tam, not coincidentally, were part of the pioneer batch of the UPA Asia Trailblazers Programme, and are widely regarded as two of the region’s rising stars. Another notable member of Team Cakenis was Bao Duong, the younger brother of Quang. Bintang Pro Picklers, the squad Team Cakenis outclassed in the semis, was bannered by India’s Vanshik Kapadia, and Taiwan’s Hsieh Yu-Chieh.
002, which gave Team Cakenis an inspired effort in the finals, featured Jack Wong Hong-kit, who is currently no. 1 in the PPA Tour Asia’s Men’s Singles category, Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall, Colin Tan, and Eunggwon Kim, who is the top Men’s Doubles player in the PPA Tour Asia rankings alongside Hong-kit. Before they made it to the gold-medal match, they disposed of Tomaz, led by Marco Leung, Colin Wong, and Mihae Kwon—all of whom are known to be among Asia’s best as well.
The Finals, unsurprisingly, came down the wire and, in fact, came down to a dream breaker at 29-29. With one point for all the marbles, Syed Uzair Sufi showed nerves of steal as he delivered the game-winner for Team Cakenis—to the delight of his Sufi’s more heralded teammates.
The Cakenis Cup Pickleball Malaysia 2025 was held at Tomaz Pickleball Club in Selangor, Malaysia, and offered a prize pool of RM100,000. A total of RM20,000 went to Quang Duong and Team Cakenis for ruling the Team Event. The gold medal winners in the Open, Advanced, Intermediate, and Novice categories received RM7,000, RM5,000, RM5,000, and RM3,000, respectively.
