Asia’s top male and female players, at least according to DUPR, are Vietnam’s Quang Duong and Taiwan’s Chao Yi Wang.
DUPR, the global rating system, recently released a compilation of the top-rated players in each continent, and Duong and Wang emerged as the best in Asia with ratings of 6.758 and 5.679, respectively.
China’s Thomas Yu is second to Quang Duong with a rating of 6.308, while the Philippines’ Eric Roddy is third with a rating of 6.126. Vietnamese stars Phuc Huynh (6.123) and Hoang Nam Ly (6.010) round out the top five. Duong, Yu, Roddy, Huynh, and Ly are the only Asian male players to have a rating of at least 6.00. PPA Tour Asia’s top-ranked male player, Hong Kong’s Jack Wong Hong-kit, is sixth on the DUPR list with a rating of 5.889.
Trailing Wang for the top spot is China’s Yufei Long, whose 5.564 DUPR rating puts her slightly above another Taiwanese bet, Yu-Chieh Hsieh and her 5.557 rating. Rounding out the top five on the distaff side are Japan’s Rika Fujiwara (5.510) and Taiwan’s Kao Pei Chuan (5.458). Long, of course, is the top-ranked women’s player in the PPA Tour Asia at the moment.
The highest-rated male and female players in the world, meanwhile, are Hunter Johnson and Anna Leigh Waters, who both represent North America. Johnson, who is also the No. 1 Men’s Singles player in the PPA Tour, has a DUPR rating of 6.927, while Waters, who is No. 1 in Women’s Singles, has a DUPR rating of 6.478.
In all, therefore, Quang Duong is the fourth highest-rated pickleball player in the men’s game, trailing only Johnson, Christopher Haworth (6.849), and Christian Alshon (6.820).
