Hometown Hero Hoang Nam Ly Nets Double Gold at AOPC 2026 as Roos Van Reek Bags Triple Crown

Hoang Nam Ly keeps finding ways to win gold medals—and at the Asian Open Pickleball Championships 2026, he copped two of them.

Vietnam’s world No. 1-ranked player claimed the Men’s Singles title and the Mixed Doubles crown at the AOPC 2026 – Fitgon Cup, which wrapped up in Ho Chi Minh City on 12 July 2026. Ly’s twin gold capped off an impressive individual campaign at one of Vietnam’s most prestigious international pickleball events of the year.

Golden in Men’s Singles Once More

The Men’s Singles final pitted Hoang Nam Ly against compatriot Phuc Huynh in a rematch of a rivalry that has defined Vietnamese pickleball in 2026. The outcome mirrored their previous meetings in its drama—Ly dropped the opening set 5-11, then responded with one of the most emphatic performances of his campaign, winning the second set 11-0 without giving Huynh a single point. The decider was never as one-sided but equally authoritative, with Ly controlling the rallies and converting his opportunities at the critical moments to seal it 11-5.

Hoang Nam Ly Makes It Two Golds and a Silver

Hoang Nam Ly’s second gold came in Mixed Doubles alongside Dutch partner Roos Van Reek, with the pair defeating Huynh and American Vivian Glozman in the final. Van Reek had a remarkable tournament of her own as she claimed the Women’s Singles title as well as the Women’s Doubles crown alongside Glozman. With those golden conquests, Van Reek completed the rare Triple Crown that made her the individual standout of the entire event.

Ly himself was trending towards a Triple Crown, as he and American partner Nick Khamphi reached the Men’s Doubles final. However, they were beaten comprehensively by compatriot Quang Duong and India’s Harsh Mehta, falling 4-11, 6-11 in a result that reinforces Duong’s rising status in Doubles.

For Hoang Nam Ly, the titles add to an already landmark 2026 season. Earlier this year he topped the DUPR Asian rankings with 6,267 points, becoming the first Vietnamese player to lead the continental standings. His men’s singles win at the AOPC reinforces what those numbers already suggested: Vietnam’s best is currently Asia’s best.

The rivalry with Huynh, meanwhile, shows no signs of cooling. They have met in finals across multiple tournaments this year, with the results split between them depending on the day and the format. The competition between Vietnam’s two leading men has been one of the most compelling subplots of the Asian pickleball calendar in 2026—and it is far from finished.

The AOPC 2026 – Fitgon Cup ran from 9 to 12 July and was sanctioned by the Asia Federation of Pickleball. More than 1,000 players from around the world participated, which is a significant leap from the 2024 edition in Ho Chi Minh City that drew over 400 players from more than 20 countries.
