The Philippine Pickleball Federation (PPF), the country’s national governing body for the world’s fastest-rising sport, has set out to build a national ranking system that will identify the best players in the nation and ultimately form the backbone of future international teams. The PPF aims to achieve this by creating an official national pickleball database called the Philippine Pickleball Participant Registry.
In a nutshell, the aims of this registry are to:
- Ensure matches played in sanctioned tournaments are properly recorded.
- Promote fair play and consistent rules across events.
- Build a credible National Ranking System.
- Prepare Filipino players for alignment with future international ranking frameworks.
According to PPF president Shery Anne Cu, players can access the Philippine Pickleball Participant Registry at registry.pickleball.ph. They will then be asked to provide personal information and their DUPR rating.
“This [pickleball] is truly a grassroots sport,” Cu told Rappler. “While other sports have been having difficulty being recognised or even known by the community, pickleball is different. People are simply interested in the sport and gravitating towards it.”
What Players Get When They Register at Philippine Pickleball Participant Registry
By registering with the PPF’s Philippine Pickleball Participant Registry, players will receive:
- A unique national player ID
- Eligibility to earn official ranking points
- Participation in PPF-sanctioned tournaments, including the upcoming 2026 Philippine Pickleball Amateur Nationals presented by Skechers Pickleball on 28–30 March
- A verified match history and competition record
- Access to upcoming member benefits, including partner discounts and player perks to be announced soon
Importantly, the Philippine Pickleball Participant Registry closely monitors players across sanctioned events, thus helping the federation build a clear national rankings ladder. Moreover, this national registry gives emerging players a pathway to rise through the ranks and earn opportunities to compete against elite competition.
“Some of the top players of our country today are actually ex-tennis college division players. But a lot of the amateur and recreational players who are competing—because there are many amateur tournaments taking place—also have racket sports backgrounds,” Cu added. “Playing against each other boosts your skill level; it jumpstarts your pickleball career.”
When players register with the Philippine Pickleball Participant Registry, they will be able to earn national ranking points by participating in PPF-sanctioned tournaments, such as the first-ever Philippine Pickleball Amateur Nationals 2026 on 28–30 March in Las Piñas. The winners of this meet, according to Cu, will earn the right to represent the Philippines at the EPIC World Amateur Championships in Singapore from 30 April to 3 May 2026. It will mark the start of the registry’s 12-month rolling mechanism, which updates players’ national points and rankings.
