A new pathway into elite Asian pickleball has officially opened—and its first stop did not disappoint.
PickleSlam 2026, hosted by PickleGO at Jurong Play Grounds in Singapore, served as the inaugural stop of the PPA Asia 125 series, delivering two days of competitive action across five pro events. Players from across the region competed for PPA ranking points, prize money, and—most significantly—a direct ticket to the Singapore Open, a PPA Asia 500 event scheduled for 23–26 July at the Sports Arena @ Expo.
All five champions earned that slot. The pathway is open.
Charles Yong Delivers the Weekend’s Defining Moment
The headline performance of the weekend belonged to Singapore’s own Charles Yong. The 19-year-old national serviceman—who first picked up a paddle just three years ago—came from behind to beat Malaysia’s Timothy Foo 15–13 in the Pro Men’s Singles final, trailing 9-5 and again at 13-10 before rattling off five consecutive points to seal the title on home soil.
It is the biggest win of his career, and it comes with a direct berth at the Singapore Open. Malaysia’s Shahmirzzy Kelvin claimed the bronze.
Sophia Tran Holds Her Nerve in Women’s Singles Thriller
The Pro Women’s Singles final was equally dramatic. Vietnam’s Sophia Tran, 18, raced out to a commanding 7-0 lead against Chinese Taipei’s Lai Pei-Yu, only to watch her opponent claw back and take a 12-1 advantage. Tran steadied, closed it out 15-13, and booked her place at the Singapore Open in the process. Japan’s Seina Shima earned the bronze.
Doubles Honours Shared Across the Region
The doubles events produced a spread of champions reflecting the regional depth the series is designed to develop. Nicholas Maleganeas and GuangSian Lin took the Pro Men’s Doubles gold over Ken Unique Dela Cruz and Johnny Arcilla, with Khoa Vo and Timothy Foo rounding out the podium.
KaiFen Yi and TingWen Wang claimed the Pro Women’s Doubles title ahead of Lai Pei-Yu and Sophia Tran, with Amanda Teo and Zermaine Lew taking bronze. Wang then doubled up in Pro Mixed Doubles, pairing with Dustin Wang to take gold. Sieu Ee Toi and Shahmirzzy Kelvin earned silver, with KaiFen Yi and GuangSian Lin completing the podium.
What the PPA Asia 125 Actually Is
For those unfamiliar with the series, the structure is worth understanding. The PPA Asia 125 runs alongside PPA Tour Asia as a dedicated pathway for emerging talent—each stop offering up to 125 PPA ranking points and a minimum of US$10,000 in prize money. Single-day formats keep competition sharp and accessible. Players ranked inside the Top 20 on the PPA Rankings are ineligible, which is precisely the point: this series creates genuine space for the next generation, not another platform for those already at the top.
The reward for winning goes beyond points and prize money. Champions earn direct entry into the next PPA Asia 500 event—putting them across the net from the best players in Asia and the world.
