City of Miri Successfully Holds Miri Closed Pickleball Mayfest 2025

The City of Miri underscored its longstanding commitment to promoting healthy living, community bonding, and athletic excellence with the successful staging of the Miri Closed Pickleball Mayfest 2025. The tournament delivered on its initial promise of topnotch competition and highlighted Miri’s unquestioned standing as the “birth place” of pickleball in Malaysia.
Mohammad Arif Sapawi was one of the biggest winners of the Miri Closed Pickleball Mayfest 2025 as he picked up a golden double. He first teamed up with Aaron Chieng Jin Yu to win the gold medal in the men’s doubles. He then partnered with Lydia Wong to bag gold in mixed doubles. Meanwhile, Adrienne Yi Ning Chan and Ting Ying Han secured top spot in the women’s doubles.
Paragon X Santoh Pro dominated the team category, edging out Warrior Panther for the gold. Completing the winners’ circle were Paragon Ace and Paragon Ultimate, who placed third and fourth, respectively.
The Miri Division Pickleball Association organised the Miri Closed Pickleball Mayfest 2025 with the intention of promoting pickleball as both a recreational and competitive sport. The three-day tournament, which drew over 200 players (92 for the individual events, 136 for the team events), took place at the Paragon Pickleball Centre from 10 to 12 May 10 to 12.
Perhaps not coincidentally, the Miri Closed Pickleball Mayfest 2025 was held in parallel with the 20th anniversary of Miri’s cityhood. The city, of course, is known as among the first cities in Malaysia where pickleball first took off as a sport. Since then, pickleball has grown by leaps and bounds in the country, so much so that it has emerged as a hub of the sport in Southeast Asia.
The Miri Closed Pickleball Mayfest 2025 aimed to encourage camaraderie among players, foster team spirit, and provide athletes with a competitive platform to prepare them or future competitions.
