Syntilay, Former NFL Star Terrell Owens Team Up for Pickleball Recovery Footwear

Syntilay has taken recovery footwear into uncharted territory, and it has done so with the help of one of sport’s most recognisable names. Terrell Owens, the NFL Hall of Famer who has since become a devoted pickleball player, has lent his insight to the creation of the TO Reset—a 3D‑printed recovery shoe designed specifically for pickleball athletes. The project marks the first time Syntilay has channelled its AI‑driven technology into a sport‑specific model, and the result is a shoe that reflects both the demands of the game and the individuality of each player’s feet.

The process begins with a detailed foot scan, capturing width, instep, asymmetry, and three‑dimensional shape. From there, advanced printing techniques generate footwear tailored to those precise dimensions. Owens was instrumental in shaping the shoe’s purpose, drawing on his own experience of the fatigue and pressure points that come with pickleball’s relentless lateral movement. His input helped refine the structure so that it alleviates stress where players most need relief, while redistributing force across the foot to create a balanced feel during recovery.

Ben Weiss, Syntilay’s founder and chief executive, explained that the heel portion of the sole was re‑engineered to reduce concentrated impact, while a roomier toe box allows the forefoot to relax after long hours on court. Combined with the company’s custom‑fit technology, the shoe is built to help players reset after competition and prepare for the next day’s demands. Owens himself summed it up with characteristic directness: “Everything starts with your feet.”

The collaboration has drawn praise from industry veterans. Joe Foster, the Reebok founder and Syntilay advisor, described the project as a turning point, noting that recovery footwear has long been generic and that this sport‑specific approach signals where the market is heading. It follows Syntilay’s earlier innovations such as the PulsePodz model, which used AI‑generated lattice cushioning to adapt to different pressure zones underfoot.

With the TO Reset, Syntilay has not only delivered a shoe but also redefined recovery for pickleball players. By merging Owens’ sporting insight with cutting‑edge technology, the company has created footwear that is both personal and purposeful—an innovation that could well set the standard for how athletes recover in the years ahead.
