MB Vietnam Cup 2025: All-Vietnamese Final Looms in Men’s Singles, Favourites March On

The Semifinals cast of the MB Vietnam Cup 2025 is complete after the conclusion of Day 2 action. And it looks like Vietnamese fans will have plenty to cheer for—at least in Men’s Singles.
Three Vietnamese pickleball pros—Phuc Huynh, Hoang Nam Ly, and Hien Truong—barged into the Men’s Singles Semifinals on Thursday, with qualifier Thomas Yu the only non-Vietnam player making it to the top four.
Yu, a Chinese-born pro now based in the US, continued his Cinderella run of sorts at the MB Vietnam Cup 2025 with a 2-1 (4-11, 11-6, 11-0) victory over Japan’s Kenta Miyoshi. He’ll next take on Huynh, the gold medallist in the MB Vietnam Open 2025, who made it to the top four with a commanding 2-0 (11-0, 11-2) shellacking of Australia’s Mitchell Hargreaves.
The other semis bracket will see Ly, runner-up to Huynh in the MB Vietnam Open 2025, take on Truong. Both men punched their tickets to the top four with dominant victories, with Ly disposing of compatriot Giang Trinh, 2-0 (11-1, 11-0) and Truong getting the better of rival Jack Wong Hong-kit, 2-0 (11-4, 11-3).
Kaitlyn Christian Gets Better of Yufei Long, Now a Step Closer to Another Gold
American Kaitlyn Christian moved one step closer to another PPA Tour Asia gold on Thursday after overcoming three-time champ Yufei Long, 2-0 (11-8, 11-7) in a highly anticipated East vs. West duel that lived up to the hype mostly. Christian will next take on Liz Truluck, who dispatched Ting Chieh Wei, 2-1 (13-11, 4-11, 11-3).
Over at the other bracket, Roos Van Reek and Sahra Dennehy arranged an all-Australia Semis showdown with victories over Hannah Blatt and Chai Yi Wang, respectively. Van Reek got the better of Blatt, 2-0 (11-4, 11-7), while Dennehy had some tense moments before eventually beating Wang, 2-1 (11-6, 9-11, 11-5).

Tyson McGuffin/Eric Oncins Stay in Line for Men’s Doubles Gold
The pair of Tyson McGuffin and Eric Oncins moved two wins away from adding the MB Vietnam Open 2025 Men’s Doubles gold to their hardware as they blasted the pair of Jonathan Truong and Len Yang, 2-0 (11-6, 11-1) to make it to the top four in Men’s Doubles. The two previously won gold in the same division at the Panas Malaysia Open 2025 last weekend.
They will be taking on the Indian duo of Vanshik Kapadia and Harsh Mehta, who bucked a one-game deficit to stun the highly touted pairing of Hong-kit and Kim Eunggwon, 2-1 (7-11, 11-3, 11-5).
The other bracket will feature a high-profile matchup between Ben Johns/Dekel Bar and Armaan Bhatia/Zane Navratil. Johns/Bar easily dispatched Thomas Yu/Santosh Narayanan 2-0 (11-2, 11-6) to book a Semis spot, while Bhatia/Navratil ran all over Kenta Miyoshi/Lucas Pascoe, 2-0 (11-2, 11-1).

Wang/Christian Arrange Semis Duel with Nicola Schoeman/Danni-Elle Townsend
Kaitlyn Christian is trending towards another gold, this time in Women’s Doubles, as she and partner Chao Yi Wang recovered from a horror start to upend Ross Van Reek/Andia Dikosavljevic, 2-1 (1-11, 11-3, 11-9) in a match that got better and better.
They will next go up against the Australian pairing of Nicola Schoeman and Danni-Elle Townsend, who bested Hsiang Wen Huang/Hannah Blatt, 2-1 (11-3, 10-12, 11-3) in a match that saw will and stunning momentum shifts.
The other bracket will see Pei-Chuan Kao/Liz Truluck going up against Ting Chieh Wei/Alix Truong after they swept Long/Trang Huynh-McClain and Leah Tauber/Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall, respectively.
Townsend/Navratil, Oncins/Van Reek Lead Mixed Doubles Semis Cast
Finally, in Mixed Doubles, Wang/McGuffin, Townsend/Navratil, Van Reek/Oncins, and Truong/Truong make up the Semis cast as each pair—save for Townsend/Navratil—delivered sweeps in the Quarters.
Wang/McGuffin blasted Ho Tam/Tama Shimabukuro, 2-0 (11-1, 11-2), while Townsend/Navratil bested Schoeman/Pascoe, 2-1 (11-1, 7-11, 11-4) to arrange a Semis showdown. On the other side of the bracket, Van Reek/Oncins dominated Trinh/Long, 2-0 (11-2, 11-1), while Truong/Truong blanked Dikosavljevic/Mehta, 2-0 (11-3, 11-5) to arrange their own Semis clash.
Semifinals action will be played today, 10 October 2025, with the gold medals to be disputed on Championship Saturday.
