Centerfield Pickleball Hosts Inaugural Tournament in Iloilo, PH

One of Iloilo’s fast-rising pickleball centres marked a milestone on 4 July 2026, as Centerfield Pickleball in Parara Norte, Tigbauan, staged its first-ever tournament. Known for its cosy and welcoming atmosphere, the family-owned facility transformed into a competitive battleground as nearly 80 players gathered to chase championship glory.

The debut event featured two divisions—Beginner and Advanced—with crossover quarterfinals adding extra intrigue to the brackets. After two days of spirited matches, Vince Lonie Orquinaza and Arne Jane Calfoforo claimed the beginner crown. Angelo Terrania and Charmaine Gestosani settled for runner-up honours, while Peter John Nalasa and Joy Andrada rounded out the podium.

In the advanced category, Janrei Alido and Joshua Ryan Traviña emerged victorious, edging JB Matias and Ronnel Jaylo, who finished second.

Community at the Core

For owners Binky Pitogo-Torrento and Cy Torrento, the tournament was more than competition—it was a way to give back to the community that embraced their vision from the start. “When we built Centerfield Pickleball, the community was always at the heart of our vision,” Mrs Torrento told the Daily Guardian.

She highlighted the inclusivity of the courts, where children as young as five play alongside athletes in their sixties and beyond. “Regardless of age, skill level, gender, or background, everyone has a place at Centerfield,” she added.

Building a Home for Pickleball

Though only three months old, Centerfield Pickleball already feels like home. Players flock daily not just to compete but to forge friendships and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Supporting the Torrento couple are Bryan and Bib Angelo Pitogo, Ms Binky’s brothers, who serve as accredited PGA Level 1 coaches, guiding training and mentoring.

While trophies were handed out, the true measure of success lay in the rapid improvement of players and the strengthening of bonds within the community. “Here’s to stronger friendships, better players, and a growing pickleball community,” Mrs Torrento said.

She emphasised that the tournament was designed to challenge participants and inspire growth. “We wanted our students and regular players to experience the excitement of competition, challenge themselves, and continue growing—not just as athletes, but as individuals who inspire and uplift others.”
