De Palma Social Club, Petaling Jaya City Council Aim to Make Pickleball, Padel More Affordable, Accessible to City Residents
Residents of Petaling Jaya in Selangor are in for some good news. Not only are they getting a new facility to play pickleball and padel, but they are also set to have a venue that will make both sports more affordable and accessible.
That’s the plan of De Palma Social Club Sdn Bhd and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), who are collaborating under a public-private partnership to construct nine pickleball and three padel courts on a 0.53-hectare site along Jalan Stadium SS7/15 in Kelana Jaya.
To fulfil the goal of making pickleball and padel more affordable, De Palma Social Club and MBPJ are planning to introduce tiered pricing, according to De Palma Founder and Operator Sean Giannelli, though nothing is final yet.
“Operations and pricing are still at the discussion stage,” Giannelli told The Star. “Ideas being discussed include promotions for varsity and school students, and even offering affordable rates for MBPJ workers or those from lower-income backgrounds.”
According to MBPJ Zone 22 councillor Mohamed Hamka Mohamed Jumah, the project is now 20% complete, with full opening targeted for February 2026.
“We want to increase court availability to support the growing interest and to encourage more people to take part in these racquet sports,” said the councillor.
With this development, expect pickleball and padel to gain even more traction in Petaling Jaya and in Selangor in general.
