Leapmotor APP Asia Penang Open 2026: Roos Van Reek Completes Triple Crown, Quang Duong Narrowly Misses His
Australia’s Roos Van Reek and Vietnam’s Quang Duong emerged as the undisputed stars of the recently concluded Leapmotor APP Asia Penang Open. Van Reek, a veteran of the Asian circuit, completed a Triple Crown, while Duong, widely considered one of Asia’s best, bagged a brace. The competition was held last week at Pickle By The Sea in Penang, Malaysia, with championship weekend played from 25 to 26 July 2026.
Roos Van Reek Completes Triple Crown
Roos Van Reek capped off a sensational run in Penang by winning gold in Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
The Australian ace was tested in the Women’s Singles final, with Taiwan’s Yu-Chieh Hsieh taking Van Reek to three sets before losing, 11-6, 4-11, 11-5. Van Reek then clinched her second gold after she and partner Vivian Glozmann dominated the pair of Shelby Bates and Domenika Turkovic, 11-2, 11-4. Finally, Australia’s own completed the golden trifecta after she helped Jack Munro beat the duo of Quang Duong and Amanda Hendry, 11-8, 0-11, 0-11.
Quang Duong Bags Double Gold
While Quang Duong may have missed out on what Van Reek accomplished after he and Hendry lost in the Mixed Doubles final, he nonetheless had a tournament to remember.
The Vietnamese sensation started off with a golden conquest in Men’s Singles by besting China’s Phoenix He in the final, 11-3, 11-5, for his first gold in the competition. He then added the Men’s Doubles gold as he and partner Harsh Mehta beat Aidan Schenk and Jack Munro, 11-4, 11-3.
Duong looked primed to net the Triple Crown, not Van Reek, after he and Hendry took the first set from Van Reek and Munro in the Mixed Doubles championship match. The latter pair, however, seized control in the second set and put away the match with an equally dominant third set.
