Pickleball Playground Returns to Tiong Bahru Plaza as Sport Continues Meteoric Rise in Singapore

Pickleball’s rise in Singapore continues apace, with Tiong Bahru Plaza once again transforming its outdoor common area into a vibrant sporting hub. From 13 to 21 June, the mall will host the second edition of its Pickleball Playground, a community activation that blends competition, family engagement and open play, underscoring how the sport is embedding itself into everyday life here.
The initiative, delivered in partnership with PlayMade, is part of the wider Shop, Eat, Play summer campaign across Frasers Property Singapore malls. Yet its significance goes beyond retail programming. By staging tournaments, camps and interactive activities in a familiar neighbourhood setting, Tiong Bahru Plaza is tapping into pickleball’s accessibility and its ability to draw diverse groups together.
Competitive play will headline the activation, with Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles tournaments scheduled for 13, 14 and 20 June. Teams will vie for FRx Gift Cards worth up to $400, while all participants receive goodie bags featuring retailer vouchers and products. The competitive element is balanced by inclusivity, with the concluding Father and Child Tournament on 21 June designed to encourage bonding through sport and provide families with a meaningful way to celebrate Father’s Day.
Children, too, are being welcomed into the fold. The Summer Kids Pickleball Camp, running from 17 to 19 June, offers professional coaching for ages six to twelve, focusing on coordination, teamwork and confidence. With subsidised entry for FRx members, the camp reflects pickleball’s appeal as a sport that is easy to learn yet rewarding to master, making it an ideal introduction for younger players.
Beyond structured competition, open court sessions will be available between 15 and 19 June and again from 22 to 25 June, allowing residents and shoppers to experience the game at their own pace. Complementing this are creative activations such as the Pick and Personalise booth, where participants can craft pickleball-themed keychains and win prizes, further embedding the sport into the mall’s social fabric.
The return of the Pickleball Playground is emblematic of a broader trend. Across Singapore, pickleball is moving from niche to mainstream, embraced for its inclusivity and community spirit. Tiong Bahru Plaza’s efforts highlight how malls and public spaces are being reimagined as platforms for participation, not just consumption. In a neighbourhood known for its heritage charm and strong communal ties, the activation resonates as both sport and social connector.
As pickleball continues to gain traction globally, Singapore’s embrace of the game through initiatives like this signals its growing role in shaping active lifestyles and fostering community interaction. The Pickleball Playground is more than an event; it is a reflection of how the sport is weaving itself into the rhythms of everyday life, one rally at a time.
