Indian pickleball’s grassroots vision took centre stage in Pune as the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) celebrated a landmark moment at the inaugural West Zone Pickleball Championship. Staged at Musclebar Sports Club in Undri, the three‑day event drew 317 competitors from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Goa, and provided a vivid showcase of the talent nurtured through AIPA’s long‑term development programme.
The championship underlined the progress of athletes across junior, open, and masters categories, with performances reflecting years of structured coaching and competitive exposure. Anjali led the medal tally with five podium finishes, including golds in U‑18 Girls Singles, U‑18 Girls Doubles, and U‑18 Mixed Doubles. International representative Shreyas Rajaram matched that haul with five medals across junior and open events, while fellow international Vrushali Thakare struck gold in Open Women’s Doubles and Open Mixed Doubles.
The junior divisions highlighted the depth of AIPA’s grassroots work. Rising names such as Aaradhya Satpute, Arnav Khamkar, Jay Agrawal, Aadya Vinod, Aarav Surve, and Piyush Gaikwad all secured medals, reinforcing the association’s success in developing young players through consistent training and competition.
Success extended to the open and masters brackets, with international players Noah Ashtamkar, Abhijit Kelkar, and Neelima Utgikar adding to the medal count. Their victories emphasised the strength of Indian pickleball across all age groups and competitive levels.
A Validation of a Vision
AIPA President Arvind Prabhoo hailed the results as validation of the association’s vision. “The results at the West Zone Championship are extremely satisfying because they validate the vision behind our Grassroots Development Programme. For several years, AIPA has invested in creating opportunities for young players to learn, compete, and grow. Today, we are witnessing those efforts translate into success at the zonal, national, and international levels.”
The event was also praised for its organisation, with special recognition given to Pune District Pickleball Association officials Rajesh Bhambhani, Aniket Durgawali, Amiraj Chowdhury, Gajendra Singh Chauhan, Kuldeep Ruchandani, and coach Ajay Chaudhari for delivering a high‑quality competition.
Following strong displays at the East Zone Championship, the West Zone edition confirmed the growing effectiveness of AIPA’s grassroots strategy nationwide. With the South Zone Championship on the horizon, the association expects its promising athletes to continue building momentum and further strengthen India’s pickleball talent pool.
The West Zone Championship concluded as a resounding endorsement of AIPA’s grassroots programme—proof that the future of Indian pickleball is being shaped by a new generation of players ready to compete at every level.
