Global Pickleball Federation, International Testing Agency Team Up for Sport’s Global Anti-Doping Program

The Global Pickleball Federation (GPF) has announced it is partnering with the International Testing Agency (ITA) to develop and progressively implement an independent and comprehensive anti-doping program for pickleball over the course of the next four years. This collaboration marks an important milestone for one of the world’s fastest-growing sport and reinforces the GPF’s commitment to athlete protection, fair play, and strong governance in the midst of pickleball’s global expansion.

“This agreement is a major moment for pickleball. As our sport expands internationally, it is essential that we uphold the highest standards of fairness, transparency, and athlete welfare,” noted GPF President Javier Regalado. “Partnering with the ITA ensures that our anti-doping program is managed with full independence and world-class expertise. This is a clear commitment to clean sport and to the future of pickleball.”

A Landmark Move for the GPF

The eventual creation of an anti-doping program is a major step forward for the GPF as it means it now joins the ranks of other global sports bodies that rely on the ITA to build and independently manage their anti-doping systems. With pickleball spreading fast worldwide, this move lays the groundwork for a credible, long-term clean sport framework that aligns with international standards.

The agreement, which runs through 2028, sets the stage for a multi-year roadmap jointly crafted by the GPF and the ITA. Through this plan, the ITA will gradually put in place the structures, procedures, and best practices needed for a fully independent, high-quality anti-doping program—one that grows steadily and sustainably alongside the sport itself.

Phased Rollout in Tune with Pickleball’s Global Rise

This phased rollout matches pickleball’s current stage of global development and positions the GPF to work toward potential World Anti-Doping Code Signatory status in the future.

Early efforts will focus on the essentials: solid regulatory, educational, and administrative foundations. That includes adopting GPF Anti-Doping Rules consistent with the Code and offering introductory education for athletes and support teams. More operational elements—such as full risk assessment for targeted testing, results management, and Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs)—will follow in 2026. Additional clean sport measures will then be introduced over the next several years as the programme’s infrastructure strengthens.

“We are honoured and excited to welcome the Global Pickleball Federation into the ITA community of partners,” said ITA Director General Benjamin Cohen. “Pickleball has experienced extraordinary global growth, and with that comes the responsibility to build strong, independent integrity structures. By following a carefully designed roadmap, the GPF is laying the right foundations for a credible and sustainable long-term clean sport framework. We look forward to supporting the sport of pickleball and its athletes throughout this important journey.”

The collaboration between the ITA and the GPF takes effect immediately, with both organisations working closely to ensure a smooth and well-structured implementation. This partnership reinforces their shared mission to protect athletes’ health, guarantee a level playing field and uphold the integrity of pickleball as it continues its dynamic global growth.
