Hangzhou Open 2025: Hoang Nam Ly Completes Cinderella Run with Golden Finish, Sahra Dennehy Nets Another Gold
Vietnam’s Hoang Nam Ly is finally a PPA Tour Asia champion.
Hoang Nam Ly netted his first-ever gold medal in the PPA Tour Asia with a 2-0 (11-4, 11-4) victory over Hong Kong’s Jack Wong Hong-kit on Championship Saturday at the Hangzhou Open 2025. It was a masterful conquest for Ly, who once again showcased his precise shot-making, tenacity, and high-octane rushes at the net to best the No. 1-ranked PPA Tour Asia player as of today.
The Vietnamese star had earlier sent shockwaves around the pickleball landscape with a heart-thumping upset of Federico Staksrud, the No. 2-ranked Men’s Singles player in the world, in their semis showdown on Friday. Earlier, Hong-kit authored his own stunner with an upset win over world No. 3 Connor Garnett.
Hoang Nam Ly, who came in ranked No. 3 in the PPA Tour Asia, was a podium finisher in four previous events—bronze in the Hong Kong Open 2025, Panas Malaysia Cup 2025, and MB Vietnam Cup 2025, and silver in the MB Vietnam Open 2025.
Sahra Dennehy Nets Another PPA Tour Asia Gold
On the distaff side, Australia’s Sahra Dennehy ended her highly successful PPA Tour Asia season with her second championship after fending off Chinese Taipei’s Chao Yi Wang 2-0 (11-7, 11-2) in yet another command performance.
Dennehy, ranked No. 3 in the PPA Tour Asia Women’s Singles, was simply masterful against the tenth-ranked Wang, displaying nerves of steel in a tense first set, and dominating the second on her way to her second gold medal in the tour after winning one at the MB Vietnam Cup 2025.
The two-time champ earlier dispatched compatriot Nicola Schoeman 2-0 (11-1, 11-1) in a surgical dismantling of a highly ranked adversary. Wang, on the other hand, denied three-time champion and local favourite Yufei Long in the semis with a 2-0 (11-8, 11-7) victory.
