Jack Wong Hong-kit Stuns Connor Garnett in Hangzhou Open 2025 for Career-Defining Win
Jack Wong Hong-kit is the top-ranked player in Men’s Singles in the PPA Tour Asia. He is also widely regarded as one of Asia’s very best in pickleball. He also has the hardware to prove it, having won gold in the Hong Kong Open 2025, silver in the Panas Malaysia Cup 2025, and bronze in both the Panas Malaysia Open 2025, and Sansan Fukuoka Open 2025.
Then, on Thursday in the Hangzhou Open, Jack Wong Hong-kit notched what might just be a career-defining victory: a 2-0 (11-4, 11-3) stunner over PPA Tour star Connor Garnett. The affable Hong Konger simply overwhelmed his American counterpart with his speed, quickness, and relentlessness to advance to the semis against Vietnam’s Hien Truong.
Impressively, Hong-kit beat Garnett after going through the round of 32, where he swept Malaysia’s Zongjin Li, 2-0 (11-1, 11-1), and the round of 16, where he survived Japan’s Nasa Hatakeyama, 2-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-5).
Hong-kit’s quarter-final victory over Garnett is an upset of the highest order. The 28-year-old Garnett is among the best in the world and is no. 3 in Men’s Singles in the PPA Tour, only behind no. 1 Hunter Johnson, and no. 2 Federico Staksrud. With the win, Hong-kit is now on track for what could be an explosive final against Staksrud, who has so far taken care of business in the Hangzhou Open 2025 with sweeps in the round of 16, and quarter-finals against Vietnam’s Lê Xuân Đức (11-1, 11-3), and Nguyen Hung Anh (11-7, 11-5), respectively. The Argentine will next face Hoang Nam Ly, also of Vietnam, for a shot at the finals.
