Singaporean Government Announces Plans to Build 50 New Multi-Purpose Courts for Pickleball, Badminton
The Singapore government has announced plans to build 50 new multi-purpose courts for pickleball and badminton over the next five years as participation in both sports continues to grow across the island.
The initiative was announced by Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo during the parliamentary debate on the ministry’s budget on 5 March 2026. The new facilities will be developed under the Sports Facilities Master Plan (SFMP).
According to the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), the additional courts are intended to meet rising demand for both sports while ensuring that Singaporeans have easier access to facilities located near their homes.
Interest in the sports has surged in recent years, particularly with pickleball gaining popularity among players of different ages and skill levels. An MCCY spokesperson told The Straits Times that courts managed by ActiveSG are consistently in high demand, with utilisation rates exceeding 90 percent during peak hours.
Among the 50 new courts are eight dedicated pickleball courts scheduled to open at the Little India Bus Terminal in the coming months. Another eight dual-use courts—designed for pickleball, tennis, and basketball—have already been operating at The Kallang since January.
At present, the public can book more than 550 badminton courts and over 80 pickleball courts across Singapore through the MyActiveSG+ online platform.
MCCY added that the locations for the remaining multi-purpose courts are still being finalised, with further details expected to be announced once plans are confirmed.
