Singaporean pro pickler Ryan Ng is naturally stoked by the PPA Tour Asia’s recent announcement that it will be holding its first-ever tour event in Singapore: the PPA Asia 500 Singapore Open. This high-level tournament will be held from 23 to 26 July 2026 and will be the sixth stop of the tour, which will begin in April with the MB Hanoi Cup.
For Ng, the PPA Tour Asia holding the Singapore Open represents more than just an opportunity for the Lion City’s top pros. For him, it is also a loud and clear announcement that Singapore has fully entered the global pickleball scene.
“Hosting a PPA Tour Asia event in Singapore also demonstrates that Singapore is now part of the global professional pickleball circuit,” Ng told The Straits Times, while also noting how he has to travel to different countries just to join top-flight competition.
Importantly, Ng envisions this landmark tournament as having far-reaching implications that figure to grow the sport even more in Singapore.
“This kind of exposure is not only going to increase exposure for pickleball in Singapore, but it is also going to raise the local standard, inspire younger players, and allow local players to have a chance to watch the best in Asia live,” Ng added.
Ng, of course, is one of Singapore’s fast-rising stars in pickleball and one of Asia’s top talents. In fact, he was part of the inaugural UPA Asia Trailblazers Programme Class of 2025, alongside Asian pickleball luminaries such as Malaysia’s Jimmy Kai Liong, Vietnam’s Ken Tam, and China’s Yufei Long.
And, come July, Ryan Ng will have a most welcome homecoming with the Singapore Open.
