South Korea’s Kwangdong Steps Into Pickleball With Major Sponsorship Push

Pickleball’s momentum in Korea has just gained another powerful backer. Kwangdong Pharmaceutical, best known for its Vita500 Ion Kick isotonic drink, has signed an official sponsorship agreement with the Korea Pickleball Association, marking a significant move into one of the country’s fastest‑growing sports.

The partnership kicks off with the 2026 Kwangdong Vita500 Ion Kick KPA Chairman’s Cup, a four‑day tournament at Oak Valley Resort in Wonju from 27 to 30 August. The event is expected to draw a wide mix of players, from teenagers to seasoned seniors, reflecting pickleball’s appeal across generations.

For Kwangdong, the sponsorship is more than a branding exercise. It signals a deliberate expansion of its sports marketing strategy, moving beyond marathons and running events into emerging racket sports. By linking Vita500 Ion Kick with pickleball, the company is positioning itself at the heart of a sport that blends competition with community.

Pickleball itself has been steadily carving out space in Korea since its introduction in 2016. Simple rules, a quick learning curve, and a strong social element have helped it spread rapidly, with television and social media fuelling public interest. The Chairman’s Cup is expected to highlight just how far the sport has come, and how much further it can grow with corporate support.

Kwangdong’s involvement won’t stop at this tournament. The company plans to supply Vita500 Ion Kick at association‑organised events through 2027, with special awards such as MVP and Energy prizes tied directly to the brand. It’s a clever way of embedding itself into the culture of pickleball while reinforcing its image of vitality and positive energy.

The move also follows Kwangdong’s recent marketing ventures, including naming webtoon artist and TV personality Ki An 84 as a brand model, and sponsoring high‑profile events like the Infinite Challenge Run with Coupang Play.

For pickleball in Korea, the arrival of a major sponsor like Kwangdong feels like another step towards mainstream recognition. For the company, it’s a chance to ride the wave of a sport that’s no longer niche but fast becoming part of everyday life.
