An Hai Ward Pickleball Tournament in Vietnam Serves Sport With Purpose

Pickleball took centre stage in An Hai Ward on 10 October 2026 as the local community gathered for the “Accompanying Students to School” tournament. Held at the Public Service Center grounds, the event was more than just a sporting fixture—it was a celebration of solidarity and a chance to give back.

Organised by the Ward People’s Committee in partnership with the Local Business Association, the tournament carried a humanitarian goal: raising funds to provide health insurance cards and gifts for disadvantaged students. It also marked two significant milestones—the 22nd anniversary of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs’ Day and the 96th anniversary of Vietnamese Women’s Day.

This isn’t the first time An Hai Ward has organised a pickleball tournament for a specific communal cause. Back in July, the Ward People’s Committee hosted pickleball tournaments for “Gratitude and Remembrance” and “For National Security and Community Health” on 19 and 25 July, respectively.

Competition With a Cause

The format was simple yet engaging. Athletes competed in mixed doubles, with teams drawn by lot before battling through round-robin play. The top pairs advanced to the knockout stage, where the championship was decided. Participants came from all corners of the ward—officials, civil servants, educators, armed forces units, business groups, sponsors, and pickleball clubs—making the tournament a true community affair.

What stood out was not just the competition but the atmosphere. The courts became a meeting ground where colleagues, neighbours, and friends rallied together, united by sport and purpose. The Organising Committee emphasised that beyond the scores, the event was about fostering cooperation and ensuring practical benefits for the community.

By the end of the day, the tournament had achieved exactly that: a lively showcase of pickleball, a celebration of local milestones, and a meaningful contribution to students in need.

In An Hai Ward, pickleball proved once again that sport can be more than play—it can be a vehicle for connection, resilience, and generosity.
